Set in 7 acres of parkland and grounds, this historic location is the idyllic French location for your perfect holiday, nestling under the foothills of the Pyrenees
Originally dating back to the 1600's, this attractive domaine has been lovingly restored, and has been offered as a holiday home or gite since 2011. Perfect for large groups who want exclusive access to the heated pool and large private gardens, and yet it is only 4km from nearby Mirepoix.
The large heated pool and poolhouse are perfect for daytime or evening relaxation. With a wet-bar, two fridges and seating / dining for the entire party, the pool is the undoubted centre-point of the property. Lounges and umbrellas provide ample opportunity to relax and find some shade, and in the evening there is large built-in Bar-b-q for a relaxing al-fresco dinner
With nine bedrooms across two adjoining properties, you will find plenty of space for everyone. Large indoor and outdoor dining areas are a perfect opportunity for your party to get together in the evening. Large range cookers provide plenty of space to cook for your party, or perhaps you would prefer to hire private caterers to provide the gastronomic delights!
Elegantly furnished with luxury fittings, the property has something for everyone. Double, King size, twin and single bedrooms - and if you want to create a large bedroom for all the kids, we can make it happen. With a mix of ensuite and shared facilities, Domaine de Pouroutounat will delight the most discerning tastes.
Domaine de Pouroutounat has 7 acres of land for you to explore - but step outside the door and there is a nature reserve on the doorstep, with short or long walks, and fantastic views. The Pyrenees are only 25km away and the views from the hill behind the property are stunning - all the way to Andorra. You might even see a deer or a wild boar on your walk.
Mirepoix is a medieval city of just 3,500 people, but has a bustling café and restaurant scene in the summer. Numerous restaurants and bars are only five minutes away, and on Mondays there is an amazing market, thronging with locals and visitors alike.
It is impossible to escape the Cathar history to this area. Central to this is the city of Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stunning architecture, lovingly restored, simply must be visited. Many Cathar castles and historic sites dot the landscape, from Monsegur to the imposing Peyrepertuse, and the sea is only 70 minutes drive away - Catlunya is within touching distance.

Welcome to Pouroutounat
Domaine de Pouroutounat is comprised of three buildings, plus a "ruin". The owners' 4 bedroomed home is on the west end of the property. Adjacent to that is the 6 bedroom Farmhouse, and on the east end of the property is the Grange Pierre, a three bedroom property. In high season the Farmhouse and the Grange Pierre are rented as one property, aimed at larger groups. In the shoulder and low season, each property is available to rent individually.
The Farmhouse is the largest building on the property. It has a large kitchen at the front (picture above), with double doors leading on to a large patio with gas bar-b-que, parasols and dining tables for up to 16 adults. It also has a large sitting and dining room, with a conservatory to the rear overlooking the extensive grounds. There is a WC on the ground floor. The building ranges over three floors - the first floor has one double, one king-size and one super-king bedroom with one en-suite shower room, a full bathroom (with shower and WC) and a separate WC. On the second floor is a further double bedroom, a super-king size bedroom (with 2 extra single beds) and one single room. This floor has an ensuite bathroom plus another shower room with WC. Four of the double bedrooms are suitable for adding a cot or an extra single bed. On the ground floor there is also a laundry room.
Grange Pierre means Stone Barn in French - but it also stands as a tribute to Peter, one of the previous owners who put so much effort into the stunning renovation of this building. Enter the Grange on the ground floor where an entrance hall leads to a laundry room. The wooden staircase rises to the first floor (note, it's a little steep). The accomodation is all on the first floor. A spacious kitchen / dining room / living room provides all the facilities you could want, and has two lovely sunny windows overlooking the meadow. There is a double bedroom, a king size bedroom with full ensuite bathroom and shower and WC, and a large twin bedroom. There is a second shower room with WC off the lounge. There are exposed stone walls throughout.
Both properties are furnished to a very high standard. You will find a mix of new and antique furniture, with quality cotton bed-linen and towels throughout (the towels provided are for indoor use only). Each house has plenty of space for large parties to spread out, and if you prefer the fresh air, there are over 3 acres of gardens to explore.
The kitchens are fully equipped with range cookers, large refrigerators, coffee makers, toasters, kettles, micro-wave cookers and plenty of quality kitchenware and tableware - and lots of wine glasses! And to help the evening entertainment, each property has a bluetooth speaker, as well as TVs and DVD players.
The pool-house is similarly well equipped, with tables, chairs, and cushions as well as two fridges to chill the evening drinks, and a built in bar-b-que. Plastic glasses are provided for use in the pool area. Please note, we now provide a limited range of pool towels. There is also a large selection of garden games - badminton and tennis, table tennis table, a football goal with net and of course, Boules, as well as swings and a slide.
The farmhouse is equipped with a large gas bar-b-que on the patio.
The area has a huge range of options if you can drag yourself away from the heated pool. The mountains offer hiking, climbing, white-water rafting, skiing and kayaking. Lower down and closer to home, there are more kayaking and sailing lakes, fishing, walking and golf.
If cycling is your thing, bring your bikes or rent some nearby! For road bikes, the Tour de France often visits the area. You can choose flat, smooth roads or hilly roads, right from the doorstep, or head south for 17km and you are into the Pyrenees and some really challenging climbs, even as high as 2,200m! For mountain bikes enthusiasts, cycle off-road straight from the entrance to the property, for many km's.
If you prefer eating and drinking, there are many vineyards and excellent wine-tasting within 20km - renowned reds and rosé from the Languedoc, wonderful dry bubbly from Limoux, and not too far to find Maury or Banjuls. Oh, and plenty of shopping, whether in local markets and antique shops, or in local boutiques, or in the cities of Toulouse or Carcassonne! Andorra and its Duty Free shopping is a 2 hour wonderfully scenic drive from the property.
